If Lamictal makes you gain weight? How does that process take place?

If you have the side effect of gaining weight, how do you gain weight, what happens in the body? do you just develop more fat or what?

A:

I have taken lamictal for more than 12 years and I can say that weight-gain has Not been a side-effect for me- I have an easier time losing weight than gaining it- not a joke. However, when I was on depakote, prior to lamictal, I put on about 35lbs, within 2 years.

As far as the side-effects I've had, the biggest ones would be some blurred vision- was tough at first, however I have never needed glasses while on it. In addition,(although I think this is pretty common in alot of meds), it can have an impact on some of my cognitive skills. Overall though, Lamictal definitely has the fewest side-effects of any of the epilepsy drugs I've taken- many of them.

Hopefully tha tinformation helps. Since I am typing to you, I would also like to pass this onto you..I don't know if you're someone for whom affording lamictal is a challenge, but I came across a Free site that has some Very good discounts on meds- my Lamotrigine(lamictal's generic), is Less than $20(instead of $300+), with this card. The site is: www.prrxcut.com/mnc00086
All you need to do is print the 'card' and you can use it :-)
