Does mercury and other heavy metals actually serve a purpose in vaccines?
A:
Of course it serves a purpose. They don't just put ingredients in for the sake of it. It may surprise you to know this, but scientists actually think about what they are doing..
Thimerosal, the mercury-containing preservative, was commonly found in vaccines until about a decade ago. In short, it caused concern and as there was another alternative, it was removed from most vaccines. It's important to note that ethyl mercury, is not the same as the far more toxic methyl mercury. Ethyl mercury does not easily cross the blood brain barrier like methyl mercury, and it is rapidly eliminated.
Aluminium salts are used as an adjuvant. It's purpose is to stimulate a better immune response.
Adjuvants actually make vaccines safer because less antigen is required.
